The Learning Design and Evaluation Sr. Manager at Stanford Medicine is a leadership role that advances the institution's educational mission through the robust design, delivery, and evaluation of medical education programs. The director is responsible for managing learning design and educational content delivery to a broad range of stakeholders including faculty, students, clinicians, patients, and healthcare professionals. This position is responsible for appropriate staffing, staff management, and performance management. This position coordinates with existing systems and departments, utilizing advanced data visualization and learning analytics to provide actionable insights and support data-driven decision-making. The role will lead efforts in research, evaluation methodologies, data visualization, and the integration of technology solutions to support data-driven decision-making. The director will oversee the design, implementation, and continual enhancement of systems and methodologies that monitor, report, and drive the effectiveness of educational outcomes, aligning them with Stanford Medicine’s strategic goals. A Brief Overview

The Senior Manager - Informatics Education is responsible for leading and managing the delivery of services for appropriate applications-related education to end user clinicians and non-clinicians within Stanford Health Care. The Senior Manager is responsible for appropriate staffing, staff management, performance management and overall scheduling. The Senior Manager identifies training needs, and guides the implementation of educational programs, evaluates the effectiveness of the educational programs, and oversees the creation and maintenance of training tools, ensuring appropriate changes as required/defined. This is a highly visible senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the management of the team in curriculum development, teaching methodology design, and delivery of training as required by the project or system enhancement. The position will assist the Director - Informatics Education in coordinating training strategy with key stakeholders and the education team.

What you will do

  • Provide leadership in the educational process and transformation of care with emphasis on safety initiatives, quality care, and best practices supported by innovative technology.

  • Maintain direct knowledge of current and future capabilities across all in-scope applications portfolio with an educational impact.

  • Maintain direct knowledge and support of key initiatives for the education portfolio.

  • Align with in-scope application and systems development roadmaps and long-range plans.

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to address learning needs of staff in a cost-effective manner.

  • Incorporate best practices to improve existing organizational methods and processes.

  • Work closely with key stakeholders in developing short and long range plans, and review these plans with other organizational management.

  • Develop relevant metrics, measure, and publish the performance of the services provided and enable continuous improvement activities in collaboration with peer groups.

  • Ensure both foundation and community physicians have a high level of customer satisfaction for services and products provided.

  • Keep abreast of new developments, and forecasts future trends in the areas of health care IT management.

  • Assist with the preparation of budget for educational resources, logistics and services related to area of responsibility.

  • Effectively support and fulfill the vision of SHC for developing these services and capabilities to support growth and outreach business initiatives.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of industry best practices and new learning modalities to continuously improve the delivery of education and end-user experience. • Develop new optimization strategies to support organizational growth and demand.

  • Maintain in-depth clinical knowledge in area of specialty and demonstrate clinical expertise. Serve as a clinical resource and coach for staff and influence the workforce to achieve high level of performance.

  • Act as a leader and consensus builder for broad, multidisciplinary groups including the clinical community, other hospital departments, and IT analysts as appropriate, clearly communicating and translating information and concepts between and across the different groups and driving outcomes.

  • Assess training program needs through regular onsite visits to provide support and proactive service, including analysis of opportunities to take advantage of existing tools and workflows.

  • Assign and prioritize tasks and projects and coach and mentor with individual team members to build skills.

  • Develop and publish relevant performance metrics on an agreed upon frequency with the Director to monitor the effectiveness of the training programs.

  • Manage employee progress on performance objectives and provide regular feedback to team members and Director.

  • Manage team members' adherence to standard processes, maintenance of quality and performance to service levels and schedule.

  • Hire, evaluate the performance of and implement corrective action, up to and including termination, for assigned staff as necessary. Address individual staff performance problems as needed.

  • Work collaboratively with Managers and Supervisors to coordinate project schedules, work request management, resource planning, and manage knowledge transfer.

  • Identify trends and detect/anticipate problems early and act as the highest level of support while mentoring and training junior staff members.

  • Participate in and frequently facilitate/organize team and cross-team meetings and maintain appropriate meeting records.

  • Be appropriately trained and advocate the use of Process Excellence methodologies approved within SHC such as Lean.

  • Research issues and use independent analysis and judgment to produce solution options (including alternative solutions when necessary to address system limitations) to complex and/or controversial matters, including pros, cons, risks, benefits, costs, and unintended consequences.

  • Ensure smooth turnover of projects both at the initiation as well as the conclusion to Operations, Support Service, and Clients.

  • Support Director and other associates with marketing efforts and other educational events as assigned.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent combination of Education/Experience. Required

  • Experience may be substituted for Education.

Experience Qualifications

  • Nine (9) years of progressively responsible directly related work experience. Required

  • Previous managerial experience in a healthcare provider organization. Required

  • Healthcare background, experience and performance that promotes a high level of credibility with clinical professionals.

  • Excellent written, oral, instructional, presentation and interpersonal skills focused on motivation and positive attitude. Highly self-motivated, directed and change oriented. Very strong customer orientation.

  • Knowledge and understanding of goals and the interdependencies of functional departments and groups (in health care industry) and the ability to lead large-scale complex training programs addressing overall business needs.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, fiscal and personnel management.

  • Ability to demonstrate objectivity, sensitivity, and a balanced perspective regarding employee concerns and organizational issues.

  • Ability to analyze highly complex systems and workflows.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $83.89 - $111.16 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
